Pedal Steel Guitar & Guitar Repairs

Based in the UK, Mark has been setting up, refurbishing, and adding pedals and levers to pedal steel guitars for about 25 years. He’s worked on many makes and types of pedal steel, but spent more hours on those guitars listed below. He’s also worked on and six string guitars, changing pickups, switching configurations, refretting, replacing worn hardware and overall setups.

Emmons Push-Pull pedal steels – Early and late models, including Black Rock’s.

Emmons Lashley LeGrande all-pull steels – D10’s, S10’s and Loafers.

Zum all-pull and Hybrid changer steels – Guitars from the 90’s to late 2000’s

Rains steels –

Franklin steels –

Infinity steels.

Sourcing parts worldwide, and working with local machine-shops, Mark likes where possible to maintain the originality of the mechanism. However, if the tuning of the guitar isn’t stable during and after changes, and it doesn’t feel comfortable, the player will struggle. Practice, good setup, and maintaining the mechanical condition of your pedal steel will improve your playing.

Mark – I’ve been lucky to chat with some great steel guitar builders and engineers over the years – Bruce Zumsteg, Tommy Cass, Lynn Stafford and Frank Carter, to name a few. Thank you for your help and the valuable information you’ve passed on.

If you’re having problems, keeping your guitar in tune, changes aren’t working, the guitar doesn’t sound right, it might just need a service and setup.

Mark recently set up and modified my Rains D-10 Pedal Steel. He was able to quickly spot some technical issues with the guitar and offered helpful advice on how to improve it for the future. From designing custom parts to be machined, electronics and thorough setup procedure, Mark’s work is as good as it gets
