C6th neck set

Whilst working on my good friend Scott’s guitar, he mentioned Newtone Strings, and most kindly sent me some sets to try. Having tried them… Wow! I had to use them myself, and stock them.

Unlike all the steel guitar strings I’d used before, these strings are round-core. Most electric guitar strings are made with a hex-core, so that when you cut a straight string, the wound part doesn’t loosen. The downside is, the wound section doesn’t wind as smoothly on the hex-core because it’s not a circle, it’s a hexagonal. This ultimately affects the flexibility of the string. When you flex a wound round-core string, you can feel it’s more supple. A right-angle bend before the cut point easily cures the issue with the winding unwinding after it’s cut. Do they sound better? Yes…. And they keep their tone longer; something I’ve really noticed. They’re also are more consistent – I’m amazed how little the fine tuners need adjustment when you put the second set on – Mark
